Oklahoma Lottery Sales Lagging, But Expected To Pick Up

Wednesday, September 20, 2006 posted 12:01 PM EDT

Revenue from the Oklahoma Lottery is lagging slightly behind projections for the current fiscal year, but is expected to pick up as the year moves on. Oklahoma Lottery Commission Director James Scroggins says the lottery is expected to generate $123 million for

education over the current fiscal year, and that sales are typically sluggish toward the end of the summer.

During today's regular meeting of the Lottery Commission, Scroggins says he's optimistic the state can reach its goal before the end of the fiscal year. Scroggins says the current $179 million Powerball jackpot should energize sales, along with new games the commission plans to unveil over the next several months.
