Big Bucks Stolen in Lottery Ticket Scam

Two women will have to pay back nearly 50-thousand dollars in lottery tickets they admit stealing from an East Greenbush gas station.

24-year-old Sara Adair of Rensselaer and 27-year-old Melissa Ziegler of Troy admit they printed out the tickets over a two month period in late 2004 and early 2005 when they worked at the Red Mill Mobil station.

"An interesting temptation," says Rensselaer County District Attorney Trish DeAngelis. "A couple of young girls, never been in trouble before, and there's a lottery terminal, so they just started punching out those tickets...hundreds and hundreds of tickets."

When they are sentenced next month, DeAngelis says the pair will be sentenced to five years probation, 10 weekends in jail, and will have to pay back the former owner of the station for his losses.
